Sneinton Time Bank currently has just under 50 members. Project 150 is a recruitment drive which aims to increase membership by 100 over the next 12 months. The more members Sneinton Time Bank has, the wider the range of skills that will be offered. Having more members will enable more exchanges to take place as it should be easier to find members capable of helping with certain tasks.
If you are already a Sneinton Time Bank member you can earn yourself time credits by recommending freinds and acquaintances to join. Every time a new member joins as a direct result of your recommendation, we will award you 5 time credits.
More members will create more activity and help the Time Bank thrive.

This year’s Sneinton Festival (27thJune – 5th July) was a good one again, with good weather, and lots of fun at a new location for Carnival Day – the Greenway Centre Park, Trent Lane.
With less money than previous years, the fact that 6 of the organising committee are time bank members helped to get the thing off the ground.

One of our new Time Bank members who is an allotment holder and avid gardener has kindly donated us some tomato plants for the TRACS back yard. She earnt 1 time credit through spending an hour replanting the tomato plants into ceramic pots for us. They seem to be doing well with all of the Sunshine we’ve had recently. We look forward to feasting on the tomatoes later in the Summer!

One of the great things about Time Banking is it isn’t a new idea, nor is it a concept limited to the Sneinton area. There are other Time Banks in Nottingham including the Skills Exchange (based at the Partnership Council) in Hyson Green, one based in the West Bridgford area of the City and there is an emerging Time Bank set to cover the Sherwood Rise area. Not being the only Time Bank in Nottingham has many benefits – it means that we can support each other with systems, advice and processes for the most effective coordination and running of the Time Bank and it means we can set up inter-time bank exchanges.
Inter-Time Bank Exchanges are where members from one time bank can recive help from a member of another time bank and the time credits will be earnt or deducted from their respective accounts. This means that if a member of the Sneinton Time Bank is looking for a service that isn’t currently being offered through the Sneinton Time Bank, then we can see whether it is being offered at one of the other Time Banks in Nottingham.
We have already had our first couple of Inter-Time Bank exchnages taking place. One of the Skills Exchange members helped us talking to people about Time Banking at our Launch event and recently an ex-tailor who is a member of the skills exchange came over to Cafe Sneinton to chat to one of our Time Bank members who is looking to become a Tailor over some lunch. I think the two got on quite well and are planning to meet up again to have a look at one of the members sewing machines.

A member who has been so active he deserves his own post! One of our Time Bank members, Leonnard, has really got involved in helping us tidy up TRACS Neighbourhood Centre as well as helping out with Sneinton events and other members via the Time Bank earning himself lots of Time Credits and meeting new people as a result.
Leonnard has helped us re-pot some plants, saw desks down to a more convenient size, clear up the back yard, put up planters on the outside wall, replace the broken panes of glass and lots more! Most recently he has set to work on Painting the outside of TRACS Neighbourhood Centre so keep your eyes peeled for a fresh look at the Centre soon!
Leonnard has also helped Sneinton Festival build stocks and ‘football’ game boards for the Sneinton Festival Fundraiser as well as helping out on the Fundraising Day himself and helping at Cafe Sneinton on Saturdays. He’s also helped another Time Bank member with digging his allotment.
Leonnard says that there isn’t a lot of help he needs in return at present but he is on the lookout for a low priced/free washing machine. If anyone happens to know of one of these localy then please get in touch!
